Company History

The numbers don’t lie. The Office of Advocacy researched the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Business Employment Dynamics information and reports that only half of new businesses last 5 years or more, while roughly one-third survive 10 years or more. But businesses which are able to survive past the critical first 10 years, seem to have the inside track at being successful over the long term.

Like many businesses, the 1942 Bushings Inc. startup was temporarily housed in a small garage. By late 1945 new customer accounts and the required inventory and machine space had overwhelmed the confines of the temporary location. Arrangements were made to purchase a larger building in Royal Oak, Michigan, which became the first permanent location for the company.

With new product lines introduced, an additional building was constructed on the Royal Oak site in 1968. This increased square footage and fully developed the property site.

Fast forward to 1989 – with additional applications, more customers, machinery and inventory added – the Board of Directors authorizes a search for a larger building, which is located and in 1990, Bushings Inc. moves to our new home in Rochester Hills, Michigan.

Since opening for business in 1942, Bushings Incorporated has survived the test of time (75 years) to become a seasoned, successful manufacturing business.

Early on, we figured out that putting our customers first was the key to long term success says Ken Maust – the head of Sales & Marketing for the company.

We accomplish this in several ways, our key office staff in Engineering, Sales, Operations, and Quality have combined experience of more than 100 years. Production staff in our shop have an average of 12.8 years of experience on the job. This improves our decision making, and manufacturing process capability.

We are well capitalized, we own our building, and can afford to invest in the latest software, machinery and equipment, and still carry the amount of inventory required to be responsive to our customer’s close in schedule changes.

We have an ISO certified quality system, with written procedures and inspection guidelines, staffed with trained, high seniority technicians. We enjoy “dock to stock” status with many of our OEM’s, and still sell to a number of OE’s who initially transferred their rubber molds to us in the 1950’s.

Our relationship with our customers, satisfying their needs, and solving their problems has sustained us for the first 75 years, and will give us direction for the next 75 years.
